First-Ever Tradeoff
Rachael challenges two women to solve each other's problems in two days with a budget of $2,000. Can a woman who can't afford her dream wedding help another get a handle on her cluttered, tiny living space ... and vice versa?
Karen, a stay-at-home mom, lives in a 738-square-foot house with her husband and three kids who are home-schooled. Between buying in bulk and her husband's junk collections, there are piles of stuff everywhere in this tiny house. On top of desperately needing to get organized, Karen needs the carpet ripped out to alleviate her daughter's allergies. Is there any hope of finding Karen the space she and her family needs?
As a "starving artist," Veronica has no resources for the wedding of her dreams and unfortunately, time is of the essence: Veronica's mom is seriously ill and on oxygen 24/7. She is concerned that her mother's health will decline over the time it will take her and her fiance to save up for their wedding. Will Veronica be able to celebrate her marriage in style like she dreamed?
Karen is a former event planner and Veronica has lots of experience with D-I-Y home repairs so Rachael pairs them up, gives them each a budget of $2,000 and 48 hours to solve each other's problems.
Kristan Cunningham, who's overseeing this inaugural tradeoff, lays down the rules of the game: "You've got $2,000, you've got two days, you have the ability to barter, trade, beg -- please don't steal."
Both women are extremely concerned that they will be able to pull this off with the time and money constraints given to them: "Veronica wants filet mignon at her wedding," says Karen. "It would cost me $2,000 just for the filet mignon!" As for Karen's request to pull up the carpet and install hardwood floors, "I've never done floors!" Veronica says.
Will they be able to pull it off or will each of them get only a fraction of what they want? Check out Part II of the tradeoff.
