Five Basic Haircuts You Need to Know

Hair styles come and go with the times, but as Kyan Douglas explains, every new look can be boiled down to one of five styles. "When you learn basic fundamentals about haircutting," he tells Rachael, "you discover that there are basically five haircuts that represent the technical aspects of haircutting. There are lots of variations, but these five are like the mother haircuts from which all other haircuts happen."

Kyan emphasizes the importance of recognizing these basic cuts: "If you can understand the language of the haircut and then go into a salon and talk that language, then you're going to get a better result."
