Kristan Cunningham works wonders to transform Rach's green rooms from ordinary guest waiting areas to ultra-hip, home-away-from-home hangouts. Some of the methods she used can be used by anyone who's looking to spruce up a room in their home:

• Scale furniture to the size of the room. If you have a small room, don't crowd it with big furniture.

• One large graphic element adds maximum impact.

• Place furniture practically as well as aesthetically. Do not place a sofa right inside the doorway -- it is crucial that people sitting on the sofa not think that they're in the path of the door.

• Use dark colors in small rooms. A lot of people think dark colors will make a room look smaller, but they actually make the walls appear to recede.

• Neutral colors soften extreme wall patterns.
