When Mariel Hemingway stops by, Rachael gets the skinny on how the actress has managed to look so beautiful and healthy all these years. "It's a passion of mine," Mariel admits. "I've been doing this stuff for over 20 years." Mariel has put her knowledge and experience together in her new book, Healthy Living from the Inside Out. "I wanted to put four books in one, because to lead a healthy lifestyle it's about lifestyle, it's not just about choosing food that's right. You have to start looking at your home, you've got to look at your exercise or if you take any silence for yourself."
Mariel explains that her book outlines a plan that covers all areas of your life, but that it doesn't have to be overwhelming. "It attacks your entire lifestyle but in a gentle way. You won't stick with something if you feel you have to turn your life upside down. Start with little steps, such as cutting your caffeine in half -- don't cut it out all together." Mariel says that this philosophy also pertains to exercise as well. "You don't have to do an hour and a half or a two-hour workout," she says. "You can do 20 minutes, because less is more if you do it with intention."
Rachael asks Mariel to explain how taking a few minutes of silence each day improves your life. "This is one I really need," Rachael exclaims. "I never shut up!" Mariel says, "Give yourself two minutes of silence where you slow your life down. The powerful and wonderful thing about silence is that it gives you time. It sounds ironic, but taking time for yourself gives you time and space." In addition to silence, Mariel also practices yoga -- which turns out to be just as hard for Rachael as the silence!
