Gabby Reece has let us eavesdrop on her conversations with friends like Eva Longoria Parker, Courteney Cox, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Sheryl Crow to show how we all need a "HoneyLine" of friends in our lives. But women can also get support from men on their honeyline. "I've learned a lot from my guy friends," Gabby explains. "For example, we [women] think certain things are attractive or necessary, and then I learned from my guy friends that they don't think that way at all."
One of the guys on Gabby's honeyline is Kid Rock, whom she has always known by his real name. "I thought it would be really fun to bring him here as Bobby for people to see how he has had a lot to navigate and does it really beautifully," Gabby says. While most people know Kid as the hard-partying musician they see in the tabloids, there is a whole other side to him. "If you want to think I'm some crazy, wild party, girl-chasing, just-drink-24 hours-a-day guy, there's enough information to probably support that," admits the 38-year-old, who has topped the charts with hits including "Bawitdaba" and "All Summer Long." "And if you want to read something else, like, yes I raised my son by myself, and I do a lot of other great things for other people and I try to use my God-given talents to help people and do other things, there's enough information to support that too."
Kid credits his mom with keeping him in line while he learned to balance parenthood and working his way to stardom in the music industry. "I had one of those moms who would help me out with any situation, but she'd also say, 'I'm not watching your kid if you just want to go out and party all weekend!'" he explains. "It cut out a lot of funny business early on - it really made me focus and work harder."
Kid jokes with Gabby that if anyone could call him out on all the high-profile women he's been associated with like Pamela Anderson, it was his mom: "She'd say, 'Why do you keep bringing these girls home?' I don't know - because I can?" While he still hopes for a long-term relationship one day, Kid tells Gabby how he remains focused on his career. "Right now, what do you love?" he asks himself. "Music. Outside my son and my family, what is it you really love about your career and everything around you - music. OK, quit being a jerk and go write the best music you can write. And I've really kind of stayed on that path - a couple bumps here and there, but that's what I do."
Gabby explains to Rachael that Kid is a great example of someone who takes advantage of a strong HoneyLine support system. "He keeps the same people around him," she says. "His band has been together a very long time, he treats them like a family; he's close with his parents, they've helped him with his son ... he's very clear about keeping loyal, smart, good people around him."
Despite the fame and fortune that Kid Rock has gained, he is still able to keep his son grounded, according to Gabby. "He's very blunt with his son," she says. "He sort of says [to his son], 'You like all these nice things that we have, but also that takes a lot of work.'" Gabby says that many parents, while not rock stars, deal with the same issue as Kid. "If you did a little bit better than your parents, you struggle hard to teach your children the value of things. So I think you have to lead by example. For him, he works very hard at that, and he's loyal to the people he's close to. And his family tells him where it's at and he's not afraid of that."
For anyone who thinks that all the talk about his mom and parenting has made Kid soft, there's no mistaking the rock star we all know hasn't lost his touch; when Gabby tries to talk cooking and asks him what is his favorite thing to make in the kitchen, Kid grins widely and says, "Love." Gabby concedes with a smile, "There's nothing more to say about that!"
