Fashion magazines are full of the hottest trends, but what looks stylish on the runway might not work so well on a trip to the grocery store with the kids ... or could it? Three brave women donned some of the latest fashions to see if they could really be worn by everyday people living in a world that isn't always quite as glamorous as the catwalk.

Sure, runway looks can be outrageous, but they can also be a great starting point for incorporating bits and pieces of a trend in a way that works for you. Gretta shares her tips for incorporating fall's trends into any woman's wardrobe:

  • Metallic fabrics are not typically flattering. "It's a lot of bling for daytime," Gretta says. Instead of large shiny outfits, she opts for metallic accessories like bags or shoes instead. "It goes with anything and I bet it will still work next season," Gretta says of her silver handbag.

  • If you plan to buy two-tone oxford heels, opt for a lower, thicker heel so it's more comfortable for everyday wear. Spend less money, because next season this trend may feel very dated.

  • If you’re going to do sequins, save them for nighttime. They're fragile and expensive to clean. Use them as an accessory on a black camisole if you want to wear sequins during the day.

  • High-waisted jeans emphasize the belly and the seat, so if you want to wear them, stay just below or at the belly button. Beyond that, they can get uncomfortable and very corseted. No pleats, and don't do skinny legs and a high waist - it's a very tough trend. If you want to cheat the look with your old jeans, just add a stretch belt in the same color, tuck in your shirt and you will look as though you've extended the waist.

For being so fashion forward, Rachael gives the three real-life trendsetters gift certificates to the Americana Manhasset mall.
