"I Can't Stand My Legs!"
In the latest installment of the "I Can't Stand My ..." series, Gretta comes to the aid of two viewers who, like many women, dread wearing shorts or a skirt that show off their legs. "Over 89 percent of women complain about their legs," she says. "They want to hide them." But with G's help, these ladies will soon be walking with their heads held high -- and legs proudly displayed!
"My birthmark gets in the way."
Drea, 35, says that she's reached a point in her life where she's confident about her body, but that she still feels held back by birthmarks on her leg. "My leg is like skin-covered with red clouds all the way up and down," she says. Drea admits that she's tried messy spray cover-ups and even contemplated laser removal. "It would be fun to be able to wear a dress and feel comfortable and go out," she wishes.
Gretta says that sprays might work for those with light blemishes, but suggests Dermablend for someone like Drea whose birthmark is a bit more dramatic. "It's opaque," Gretta explains, "like a hose or a tight, not like a sheer pantyhose." She says that if you want it to set and be water-resistant, you have to use the powder. "That's what sets this apart," Gretta says. "It's transfer-resistant, it will cover anything." Drea is pleased with the results. "This is the first time in 25 years that I've been able to put a skirt on in confidence," she beams.
"My 'little stumps.'"
Kelly, 29, has a nickname for her legs -- tree trunks. "I do think I have a bit of a longer torso," she explains, "which also adds to the fact that my legs are so short and stumpy." Kelly says that the biggest hassle is trying to find clothes that fit her disproportionate body. "I wish my legs were really thin and really small and would look great in like a pair of boots or just in a skirt," Kelly laments. "I just want to be able to look good, feel good and go out and have a good time."
Gretta uses some of her style strategy to bump up Kelly's look. "It's about keeping a long line," she says, adding that Kelly is wearing stretch leather boots from Naturalizer. "We love the style of the slouchy boot, but not on her," Gretta explains. "You have to pick and choose things that work for you. I don't want to make her look shorter or wider through the bottom of her leg, so I told her stay away from those styles."
Gretta suggests wearing monochromatic hose underneath the boots to keep the long line going, and explains how she gave Kelly, who has only a 28-inch seam, the appearance of height. "We went with a high-waisted skirt to elongate," she points out. "You flip your proportions, that corrects you. We added the cool little belt, but in black, so it keeps her waist in line."
"I feel great, I feel amazing," Kelly exclaims. "This is the first time I've ever been able to get a pair of zippers boots up over my calf!"
