The Liquid Facelift
Kelley, 44, says that when she looks in the mirror, she sees someone very tired and a lot older than she is -- even though the mother of two young kids feels vibrant on the inside. "I have a lot more lines on my face than I ever remember having," she says, "and they're not going away." For her, plastic surgery is not an option, but makeup and over-the-counter moisturizers don't seem to be sufficient. "I look terrible," Kelley regrets, desperate for a low-maintenance, non-invasive solution.
Rachael introduces Kelley to Rand Rusher, a registered nurse and skincare specialist who offers a "liquid facelift" using a hyaluronic acid. "It's a little smoke and mirrors," he explains. "We're not actually removing the fat pad. We're softening the area around it. We're not stretching or pulling, just softening." Treatments can range from $200 to $3,000 and last between six months and a year.
"How much does it hurt?" Rachael asks. "It hurts a little," Rand admits. "But pretty hurts!"
Rachael leaves Kelley in the capable hands of Rand, and after a few injections, the new Kelley is revealed! "I love it!" she beams. Rachael notices a drastic difference: "You look like you went on a month vacation!" she says. "Oh," Kelley jokes, "and I did some naughty things on it!"
As for the pain, Kelley admits, "Beauty is not painless. It's a little bit of pricking, but not bad. And with the topical solution it doesn't feel painful."
