Makeup Facelift
Julie, 52, has become so frustrated with her wrinkles that she even uses her hair style to conceal them. "I wear bangs because bangs are a lot cheaper than Botox," she admits, "and it's the painless solution to wrinkles on the forehead." Julie says she has given up wearing makeup because it makes her look and feel older. Makeup artist Mally Roncal says that Julie shouldn't throw in the "makeup" towel just yet. "The great thing is," Mally says, "it's not hard, you just have to learn the techniques. And it's not about buying expensive makeup -- it's about using stuff you probably already have at home. If you have five minutes, you can do a few quick things that will make a difference -- you don't have to spend two hours in the bathroom."
Mally's tips for a "makeup facelift:"
Use concealer. Mally says to use this first because, "It's going to brighten up underneath the eyes and make you look like you had eight hours of sleep." She suggests using your ring finger to apply the concealer since it has the lightest touch.
Apply foundation. "So many women match their foundation to their face and not their neck," Mally warns, "and that's their first mistake. Make sure you put your foundation right on your jaw line and blend it down to your throat and you'll get the perfect color every time."
Touch up your eyelids. "The trick is you want to come up a little bit past the crease in your eyelids just ever so slightly with a natural shadow. That's going to pull everything back and make it look like you had an eyelift."
Use an eyelash curler. "This is the number one secret to looking younger," Mally says. "When you don't do this, your eyelashes point down and drag your eyes down. If you curl them, it lifts them up and it looks very youthful, energetic and fun."
Hide laugh lines. Use a soft concealer around the mouth to hide marionette lines (laugh lines). "What you're trying to do is play with some light," explains Mally.
How does Julie feel about Mally's makeover? "I feel great!" she says. "I feel like I look younger. She taught me how to get rid of those marionette lines that I hate -- it's easy."
Mally offers these other quick tips:
Lip Liner -- "Make sure you use a lip liner that matches your lip tone exactly. You want something natural. Follow your lip line -- if you need to overdraw a little it's OK, but don't go crazy. You can also pick a lip liner that's light in color -- dark lips tend to make the lips look smaller. One trick is to take a little bit of shimmery powder and apply it to the cupid's bow (the area directly above your upper lip line) and it's going to bring that area right out."
Blush -- "This is a great way to get those beautiful round cheeks that you had when you were younger. First, smile to find the apples of your cheeks. Apply a little bit of blush in a circular motion starting with a little in the middle and then blend it out so it's evenly diffused. Use something with a tiny bit of shimmer in it because it's going to catch the light and really make that roundess of the cheek stand out -- like a little cherub!"
