Michelle Obama's Personal Connection to the Garden
Michelle Obama opens up about her family history and how it influenced her life as an adult and the lessons she's trying to pass on to kids with the White House kitchen garden. "We always had the vegetable on the plate, but there was less fresh produce then," she explains. "I remember most of our vegetables were in cans and cooked within an inch of their lives! So the notion of going back to those roots is what we're talking about, that's part of what we're doing with the Let's Move! conversation ... it's just making [the garden] less intimidating and understanding that this makes vegetable eating more fun and it's tastier. Tastes a lot better than what you'll get in the can."
Despite the great success of the garden, it hasn't been without a few "bad apples" — watch the video above to hear Mrs. Obama talk about the foods that they're still trying to get right!
