Jim has put himself where only the brave (or dumb, as Rachael says!) dare to tread -- in an argument between his wife and his mother! "My mom makes a stuffed artichoke -- it's just exceptional," he says. "My wife makes a stuffed artichoke -- it's good, but it's not great." His mother Caroline agrees: "I love my daughter-in-law with all my heart," she says, "but not her artichokes. My artichokes are better than hers!"
Joanne stands by the family recipe she makes, and believes there's more to Jim's preference than meets the tongue. "He's kind of a momma's boy," she contends. "Everything his mother does is right ... but I like my artichokes better."
Rachael wants no part of this family feud, so she calls in the big guns to decide who's got the better recipe -- chef Mario Batali. And the stakes are high: in addition to ultimate bragging rights, the winner receives dinner for four at Babbo restaurant in New York City -- and the loser has to walk around Manhattan wearing a sign proclaiming that the winner makes a better stuffed artichoke!
As Mario tastes each of their recipes, he's got a word of advice for Jim. "If I were you dude," he says, "I'd call it a tie. But I'm not you!" With that, he announces his decision -- mom Caroline is the winner! Mario has one more suggestion to help keep the peace in this family's kitchen: "You should continue both traditions," he tells them.
Did Mario get it right? Try each recipe and judge for yourself!
