Could Your Kitchen Be Making You Fat?
Last fall, Prevention Editor-in-Chief Liz Vaccariello gave us a sneak peek at her new diet book, 400 Calorie Fix, which uses the simple principle of eating four 400-calorie meals a day to lose weight. "It's not about counting calories," Liz says. "It's about controlling calories and having visual clues, and 400 ideas in the book about how to eat meals this way." She explains that in addition to offering recipes you can make at home, the book offers 400-calorie food options and combinations that come in handy when ordering takeout, snacking at the ballpark and even when going out to the movies. "We want you to see the world through the 400 calorie lens," Liz says. Check out the gallery to the right for some of her 400 calorie tips.
Liz points out that controlling where you eat may be as important as controlling what you eat. "The kitchen has become the centerpiece of the home," she explains. "When you're cooking or eating that's fine - but you're also paying your bills, you're talking on the phone, you're on the computer - food becomes part of every activity and you're going to be snacking and mindlessly eating all day long if you're not careful."
