Randy Jackson tells Rachael that after he finishes judging contestants on Americal Idol, the tables turn when he gets home to his three children. "They always give me their opinion of what's happening on Idol," he says, "What I say, my judging -- they critique the dawg! I'll get home from a long day and they will be like, 'Dad, you know you were wrong. That kid was really good and you were wrong.' I'm like, what? My own kids calling their dad wrong?"
Five years ago, Randy was given news which changed his life. "I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes," he says. "It was a big wake up call for me, so I went through a lot of steps to change my life -- my eating habits, my exercise. I dropped a bunch of weight and really got my diabetes under control." Randy tells Rach about The Heart of Diabetes, an awareness campaign sponsored by the American Heart Association and Takeda pharmaceuticals. Randy advises, "If you go to Iknowdiabetes.org you can get all the tips and educate yourself, because about a third of the people who have it don't know they have it. You can also share your story about living with type 2 diabetes -- it will help to enlighten other people, and whoever wins the story contest will get to do a PSA with me in LA -- we'll get to hang!"
