From a guy who won't wear jeans to one who refuses to wear dress pants, Colby and Gretta have their hands full as they respond to three women who are desperate to get their men to get a new look and break out of their fashion comfort zone.
Colby cautions that a man's ego is very fragile, so if you're hoping to make over your man's look, you've got to be strategic! That's why Gretta offers these tips:
Start out with a "pre-game" shopping strategy. "Always pre-negotiate two things," Gretta suggests. "Decide and agree ahead of time what items are goals, and know specifically what stores you are targeting." It's also a good idea to set a time frame for the outing. "Remember ladies, Rome was not built in a day and neither will his shopping stamina. Spoon feed him small trips and he will be a better sport in the long run because we all know men have low endurance for shopping and get grouchy."
Warm up and cool down are a must. Start with a visit to an electronics or sports-oriented store, or whatever it is that he likes. Then end the outing with a lunch at his favorite restaurant.
Set reasonable expectations. Most men need to take baby steps when it comes to updating their look so Gretta says be careful which colors you suggest -- "Don't start with fuschia!"
Ease in some foolproof colors. Gretta suggests plum or lavendar which are close in tone to the blues they already have in their closet. Or, try steel grey which can modernize any wardrobe instantly.
Bring along plenty of praises. When you've found some great, stylish new duds, tell your man how hot he looks in the attire. "Don't be fooled, our guys love to be swooned over," Gretta says. Reward his participation and cooperation by telling him how handsome he looks over and over again.
