Nate Berkus' Design Tips for "Virgin" Decorators
A new year often means a new place and facing the challenge of decorating for the first time, so Nate Berkus is helping several decorating "virgins" with some much-needed design advice. "I never bought anything for my first apartment that I didn't really love," he recalls. "Everyone feels that pressure when you first move in, that you want it done and you want it to be perfect, but the truth is, that's how people waste money. Don't buy stuff that you don't love, take the time [to buy what you love]. Plus, don't worry about having everything new; use heirlooms, use some things from your mother's basement, go to flea markets and consignment stores."
