With Mother's Day approaching, Rachael wants to demonstrate how to make the perfect cake that any mom would enjoy. But everyone knows Rachael doesn't bake, so she enlists the help of one hot mama who knows her way around a mixer -- Paula Deen! The feisty cook shows Rachael how to make a cake that her husband's mother used to make for him every year on his birthday -- Mrs. Groover's Banana Nut Delight.
Along with her sons Bobby and Jamie, Paula's husband Michael is in the audience. When Rachael notes how handsome her husband is, Paula reveals a secret. "Not only did mama catch a man," she boasts, "she caught a man nine years younger than herself!" Paula is proud to tell Rachael that there's a new, even younger man in her life ... her grandson Jack!
Most know Paula as the smiling, happy-go-lucky southern cook, but Paula tells Rachael that there's another side to her life that she shares in her book, Paula Deen: It Ain't All About the Cookin'. "I've been through some rough times," she says, "but that's what builds character. I suffered for 20 years with agoraphobia, frightened to leave my house or safety zone. I'm hoping that anyone who's ever had stinkin' thinkin' that slowed them down, I hope that they will learn from some of my mistakes. We've got so much to smile about -- if you wake up on the right side of the dirt, that's reason enough to smile!"
Paula tells Rachael that there's one message she would like people to take away from her story. "I've made some poor choices, I've made some mistakes. But making a mistake doesn't have to ruin your life. It does not have to give you the course. If you can look over your shoulder and recognize those mistakes and learn from them, those mistakes turn into blessings. So forgive yourself for your bad choices and move on."
Rachael wonders what kind of important life lessons Paula's children have learned from her. "Pork chops!" jokes Jamie. "As far as in our lives, we always try to turn negatives into positives. In the kitchen, it's 'clean as I go.' When dinner is ready, the kitchen's already clean." Bobby adds, "My mom is my hero. I'm living a life I never thought I would and that's thanks to mom."
"That's a nice Mother's Day gift right there!" Rachael says.
"You know," Paula beams, "you don't need anything else."
During a commercial break, the cameras catch Paula and Rachael heating up the kitchen with some sizzling dance moves!
