Rachael Ray: Rachael's Daytime Talkshow

Personalizing Your Wedding

"Personalizing is the biggest thing in weddings right now," says Sally Kilbridge, deputy editor of Brides magazine. "You can use anything to personalize your wedding; it doesn't have to be expensive. To put your own mark on it is a little more work, but you get a lot of satisfaction from it and people will really remember your wedding."

Make your special day stand out among the rest by adding these personal touches:

Get your names printed on ribbons that you use to tie the napkins or add a bow or two to the back of the chairs at the reception.

Instead of rice or rose petals, have your guests throw photofetti with pictures of the two of you on one side and the date of your wedding on the other. Rachael gives this idea a thumbs-up: "Rice hurts!"

Incorporate a family recipe into the meal at the reception and give the recipe card as a favor.

Have a candy bar (a table with different candies in containers, not simply a Snickers!) positioned by the door as guests leave. On their way out have them fill a paper sack with their favorites. You can even get your names printed on the chocolates!

For bridesmaids, have their bouquets feature their birth flowers in coordinating colors.

January - carnations or snowdrops, February - violets, March - daffodils, April - daisies or sweet peas, May - lilies of the valley, June - roses, July - larkspur or water lilies, August - gladioli or poppy, September - aster or morning glory, October - calendula or cosmos, November - chrysanthemum, December - narcissus or poinsettia

Compile a personalized playlist of songs with guests' requests. Ask everyone to jot down a favorite tune on their RSVP card, one that is sure to get them out on the dance floor.

Write personal notes on the back of each guest's placecard. The messages can range from referencing inside jokes between you and your close friends to simply, "Thanks for coming, have fun!" to those you don't know as well.
