Dress Shopping Secrets from Say Yes to the Dress
Everyone has a dress that they bought for a special occasion and thought was absolutely gorgeous ... but then you look back at photos from the event and realize the outfit was a miss and didn't fit as perfectly as you had hoped! To help you avoid making that mistake again, Rachael invites a shopping pro to share some fashion words of wisdom. "One of the biggest mistakes everyone makes is their outfits don’t fit properly," says Randy Fenoli, Kleinfeld's fashion director and host of Say Yes to the Dress. "It doesn’t matter how much you spend on a dress, if it does not fit properly then it’s worthless!"
Not sure where to begin? Randy reveals three strategies for building the perfect dress wardrobe!
Fit and hemlines. "The three most important things that you have to remember about fit are the bust, waist and hips," Randy says. Look for stretch fabrics, he suggests. "It’s going to fit everyone a little more easily." For hemlines, he says there is one big mistake to avoid: "Hemlines go up, they go down, and every girl asks me, 'What do I do with the hemline this season?' You know what? It’s not about this season. It’s about your body and what looks best on you."
The knit dress. "This is a dress that’s really kind of the jeans of the dress world," he says. "It's very relaxed, you can do just about anything with this dress!"
The little black dress. "Everybody is kind of watching their money nowadays, so I think one of the most important decisions you could make is to get a good black dress," Randy suggests. "This is actually the same dress, twice. We’ve dressed it up and dressed it down!" He suggests looking for a dress like this, with a drape through the midsection. "It’s very forgiving, so a little rouching goes a long way!"
