Ricki Lake
While Ricki used her strong sense of commitment and hard work to go from a size 24 to a size 4, others opt for the countless number of diet products available on the market. Ricki admits to having tried a few of these herself. "I'm the poster child," she says. "I've done it all!" Ricki joins Rachael and nutritionist Christine Bybee as they examine three weight loss products viewers put to the test in the latest human lab experiment.
Ricki tells Rachael about her passion project, The Business of Being Born, which contrasts the hospital birth of her first child Milo with the home birth of her second child Owen. "What I learned between the first and the second birth just blew my mind," she says. "I learned so much about the health care system when it comes to birth. Not necessarily that doctors or hospitals are bad, but that the system is not working. Our infant mortality rate in this country is the second worst in the developed world, yet we spend two or three times per birth what other countries do and they have a better system. I wanted to look at it, raise questions and educate and empower women to make the best choice for themselves when it come to birth."
