Rachael Ray: Rachael's Daytime Talkshow

Shave Five Minutes Off Your Morning Routine

When Rachael heard that the average woman spends 2 years of her life getting ready, she called in Gretta to share some time-saving (_and_ money-saving) beauty tips.

1. Eliminate multiple creams and lotions by using shea butter

Cut down on the number of products you use. All that different stuff for moisturizing the face, the body, the feet... you just need one: shea butter. It's super-emollient, not greasy, and is an ingredient in all those expensive products you buy. It's inexpensive (about $6.99 for a big tub) and it's one-stop shopping! 100% shea butter will be the most expensive because it's not diluted, but it won't leave an oily residue. Other options are mixed with mineral oils and other emollients so they're a little more slick.

2. Make your blow-out last more than one day with hair powder

When you get a blow-out, use Bumble & bumble's hair powder the next day. These new powders let you go two days without a wash. Not only are you saving time, you're also saving money because blow-outs can get pricey!

Extra tip: Powder spray also volumizes and revives color. A color close to your natural hair color can cover a few gray hairs and touch up roots between highlight appointments. Since it also works by filling in spots, it can help thinning areas - a tip for men as well as women.

3. A little spritz of "Prep" can get you out of the house without a wash

Bumble & bumble "Prep" refreshing spray can be used before or after you style your hair, but it's especially great if you want to get away without a wash. It revives all the product in your hair, makes it shiny, and if you blow dry it again to revitalize your style, it won't leave hair sticky. So if you wake up with bed head, spray a little on, blow dry it again and no one will be the wiser. If you wear your hair curly, you can spray it on and scrunch your curls to give them bounce the second day.

4. Stop digging through all that stuff in your makeup bag

Throw out the big make-up bag and the mini individual things of color! This Trish McEvoy case has everything all packed together in a handy case: colors for your eyes, lips and even brushes. Just zip it up and go! It's pricey, but you get a one-on-one consultation at any Trish counter and it's so worth it.

Sonia Kashuk has fool-proof color palettes at Target for under $20 that you can just slip in your bag. It comes in "blonde," "brunette" and "redhead"-- you don't even have to guess anymore about color. She also designed a handy eye-liner/mascara combo and a 3-in-1 moisturizer, SPF and tint.
Extra tip: If you're not sure about a product, go small. Get a trial/travel/sample size for products that are new to you before investing in a big bottle. You can always take the little one with you when you travel. You might need to ask for the trial sizes; they don't always have them out because they want you to buy the bigger ones.
