Shop Where the Pros Shop
Don't think you can afford high-end design on your budget? Think again! Kristan Cunningham, Rachael's DIY buddy, lets you in on the secrets of where the pros shop to get the most bang for their buck. Watch the video above to see her visit salvage shops to hotel surplus centers, taking you to the best places for redecorating your home.
According to Kristan, it's not just the outlet and discount centers that yield the bargains. You could even score discount success at your local furniture or appliance store if you ask the store manager these "trick" questions:
1) "Do you have any "open box merchandise"? This basically means that the packaging has been opened, or a floor model is marked down. Sacrificing a box (who needs it anyway?) or getting a product that's been on display for a few months could equal big savings.
2) "Do you have any discontinued merchandise?" Sometimes a color has been discontinued because it was seasonal, or the product has been upgraded. As a result, you could save big bucks walking away with last year's model or a spring color in the fall -- and who minds that if it means saving a couple hundred bucks?
