Staying Safe and Having Fun This Summer

From grill safety to homemade water fun, Hannah Keeley has the tips you need to have a safe, fun and cool summer!

• Staying Safe Around the Grill

Hannah says, "Kids need specific directions. You can place red mats around the perimeter of the grill and tell your children to stay off the mats. That's more specific than just telling them to stay away from the grill. That makes sense to them. They know, red mats = stay away."

• Homemade Sprinkler

"For staying cool in the summer, playing in the sprinkler is a tried and true tip that always works," Hannah says. "But moms don't have to schlep to the store to buy expensive water toys or sprinklers." Instead, she suggests poking holes in an empty milk jug, then attaching the hose to it using duct tape for an instant refreshing toy!

• Don't Forget the Pets!

It can get pretty hot in the summer sun, but it's even hotter for our four-legged furry friends. One way to help cool off your outdoor pets (in addition to providing them with areas of shade) is to place their water and food dishes in a kiddie pool. Fill the pool with a couple of inches of water so they can cool their paws while eating or drinking.
