Dominic takes a break from trying to uncover the mysteries of the Lost island to chat with Rachael. "It must be really tough having to film on Hawaii!" jokes Rachael. "Rough gig!" Their love for Hawaii isn't the only thing Rachael and Dominic have in common. "I was a sautee chef for two years in Manchester," Dominic explains. "I like cooking but it took all of the joy out of it -- too much stress. And never ever be rude to a server or a waiter because they will end it for your stomach!"
One thing Rachael and Dominic don't have in common -- balance! While shooting the Lord of the Ring films in New Zealand, Dominic and his costars were searching for something to do on the weekends, so they picked up surfing. "I was out on the waves with three hobbits, an elf, a wizard and one human." Eight years later, Dominic is hitting the waves of Oahu during breaks on Lost. He tries to teach Rachael how to balance on a surfboard by using an indoor practice board.
Despite the fact that Dominic and his Lost costars have had some dangerous encounters with tropical polar bears, he's a big supporter of PETA's Helping Animals project. "I'm a huge animal fan; the natural world has had such an influence on my life. This is a campaign that tries to draw attention to the fact that we're sharing the world with these animals. We've moved into their communities, not the other way around. They have families too, they have lives, feelings...they're just trying to get by like we all are."
