Surviving Teenage Drama
For 16-year-old Cara, there's too much drama in her life. She's got a big math test coming up and she also likes this guy in her class and he's so cute and dreamy and so popular but her friends don't want her to see him because they think he's a player but Cara thinks they're just jealous and ...
When you're a teenager dealing with such "life or death" issues, the last thing you want to do is listen to your elders. But as Rachael shows, everyone was a drama-obsessed teen at one point in their lives! She invites three women to read from their own teenage diaries to show Cara that drama is all relative, and that things might look a little different years from now. Rachael tells her, "Sometimes listening to other people and hearing what they went through can give you a fresh perspective. Maybe you'll say, 'That sounds so silly' or 'That sounds just like me'."
Excerpt from Gloria's diary, circa age 12 or 13:
"Lisa also threw my Def Leppard tape down the stairs and Daddy refused to buy me another one! Why me?"
Excerpt from LaTrice's 6th grade diary:
"Oh my gosh! Today I saw Andre in the hall. He is the cutest boy in whole wide world. We learned CPR and if God could please let Andre pass out in the hall so that I could give him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and I would be a hero."
Excerpt from the middle school diary of Gena, a one-time teenage Beverly Hills, 90210 fan:
"If I go to LA, do you think I can make Dylan dump Brenda for me? That is the one thing that could make me feel happy today."
For being a good sport and sharing her drama with everyone, Rachael gives Cara a charm necklace that says LIVE, LOVE & LAUGH because, as Rachael says, "That's all you're supposed to be doing when you're a teenager."
