Do you know a kid who flips through fashion magazines, sketches out designs and sews their own clothes? Meet three young designers who do just that -- and one is even turning a profit with her design business!
To test the girls' skills, Rachael brings in Project Runway mentor and author Tim Gunn for a fashion challenge. "These girls are so serious about it," says Tim. "I want to give them a challenge that really speaks to every day for them."
Tim's idea is to have the girls create a look for the last day of school. They have three hours to complete their designs. The winner receives a $300 gift certificate to Jo-Ann's Fabric and Crafts.
Can the designers "make it work?"
Tim is impressed with the way the girls handle the challenge. "These kids blow me away," he says. "They're very diciplined in terms of work habits and I'm completely amazed." Rachael agrees with Tim. "We just can't choose one," she says. "You're all winners!"
After the competition, the girls sit down for a green room chat
What advice do they have for other aspiring designers?
Special thanks to the Pratt Institute for hosting the competition.
