Tips for Becoming a "Mompreneur"
When moms Jen and Barb first started their website for moms they learned first-hand how to balance work and family. They're sharing those ideas in their new book The Mothers of Reinvention to inspire women who've had children and aren't sure how to reenter the workforce. "Most American families need two incomes," notes Barbara Machen. "We do want to financially contribute, the trick is, how can we be with our families as well and do it between [kids' school] drop off and pick-up?" They're helping Meghan, a viewer who dreams of starting her own brownie business, and add more tips here:
Find your passion. Choose part-time work or look to start a small business based on what you love most. "What do you do well? What would you do for free?" Barbara asks. "What do people compliment you on?"
Make time for work (and you can!). Start thinking about where you could fit work into your routine and consider what you can realistically add to your week. "None of us have any time. You've got to make some time. I don't care if it's 15 minutes a day or 20 hours a week," Jennifer Pate adds. "We say yes to everything, learn how to say no. It's not a bad thing!"
