Tiffanie is only 25 years old, but feels very overwhelmed and exhausted all the time. "I can't just sit down and relax," she cries. So she pays a visit to Dr. Mark Liponis at The Canyon Ranch and takes a quiz which exposes her problem -- her lifestyle habits are causing her to age at an alarming rate. "The answers to those questions," Dr. Liponis says, "really tell us about the health of someone's immune system, and the health of your immune system is directly responsible for aging." Out of a possible score of 100, Tiffanie scored a 28. "At the moment," the doc tells her, "you're aging like a speeding bullet."

What does the immune system have to do with aging? "We found that the fountain of youth has to do with the immune system," Dr. Liponis says. "The immune system that's supposed to defend us actually ages us later in life. So you don't want to boost your immune system -- you actually want it to calm down." He tells Rachael about some of the research he's discovered about a person's immune system:

  • People born in the spring have an immediate immune system advantage. "If you were born in the spring, you were conceived in the summer. And that meant your mom was probably outdoors, she probably got a little more sunshine, a little more vitamin D and that improved your immune system already at a very young age."

  • Good body proportion is directly related to a healthy immune system. "Big hips mean a healthy immune system."

  • Flossing helps prevent the immune system from working overtime. "When you have plaque building up between the teeth and you're not flossing, that's a little infection that your immune system has to fight and respond to."

  • Being in love calms the immune system. "If you are making love or are in love, your immune system is calm."

Upon analyzing Tiffanie's quiz and blood work, Dr. Liponis concludes that she is aging three times faster than other 25-year-old women. In order to show the consequences of her actions, Tiffanie lets a special effects artist age her 20 years to see what she would look like if she doesn't change her ways -- and the results are shocking. "Oh my God!" she gasps. "I look really old!" Dr. Liponis explains that it's not too late to avoid becoming that face in the mirror Tiffanie sees. "Everything that she's worried about that's aging her can be reversed if she takes those steps now."

A few steps Tiffanie and others can take:

  • "Set a bed time. When you don't sleep, you're immune system is acting like you've got the flu. That's why you feel achy and tired and wiped out."

  • "I want your bedroom to be quiet and dark. If you open your eyes while the TV is on, it shuts off the melatonin in your brain and you're not going to get back to sleep."

  • "Drink in moderation. A drink a day is about the limit for women. Men get two."

To get her jumpstarted on a healthy lifestyle, the Canyon Ranch gives Tiffanie a weekend at their spa. "It's a trip for two," Rach says, "because the doc said gettin' a little somethin' somethin' is good!"
