These three sisters are getting married within six months of each other. Though their parents couldn't be prouder, paying for three weddings means they'll be sacrificing a big dream of their own.
While the girls all have different tastes, they want to make sure their individual styles stand out on the big day. Rachael brings in Sally Kilbridge, of Brides magazine to talk about the latest bridal trends that'll turn each of their weddings -- and yours -- into a special, unforgettable event.
"Weddings today are more personalized to the couple," says Sally. "Think about what you love: foods, music, colors, themes and people to help make the wedding tailored to your likes." Sally believes the three areas where couples can really let their personal style shine through are with cakes, invitations and dresses.
Cakes
Rather than go with a traditional white wedding cake, Sally advises adding touches to your cake that reflect your interests. "We took a white wedding cake and made it exotic with some bamboo," says Sally. "You can also think outside of the box with flavors, try carrot cake if you like it or if you're a vegan, go dairy-less." Another alternative Sally suggests is cupcakes because they come in a variety of flavors and colors. They really show the fun side of a couple," she says. If you're not up to cake, more and more couples are starting pairing dessert wines and chocolates as a modern alternative to cake.
Invitations
"Invitations set the tone of your wedding," says Sally. "They can let guests know your style and colors ... and just what kind of wedding they might be in for!" And invitations are not just made of paper anymore, "We're starting to see invites made out of wood, graphic patterns, letter press, and even arriving in boxes surrounded by jewels or confetti. Everything from ultra-natural to ultra-luxe, nothing is boring anymore," Sally exclaims.
Dresses
Bridal dresses aren't just white anymore, nor are they always bridal. To help cut costs some brides are going more casual or opting to pick out bridesmaid dresses in place of traditional gowns. Colors in place of white are also starting to appear on the runway and down the aisle. "We're seeing a lot of modern yet feminine or romantic and retro," says Sally. "And the great thing about brides now using bridesmaid dresses is that they can be worn again for a black-tie event or if the dress is a separate, you can wear the halter with jeans for a night out!" Whether you're choosing the bridesmaid dress or swapping out white for a color, you can really rack up the savings if it's a dress you can wear again!
