When it comes to lettuce, the darker green, the better… right?
You've probably heard people say that iceberg lettuce is essentially just water, so it's not worth eating for nutritional value. But is that actually the case? Keri Glassman, celebrity nutritionist and founder of "Nutritious Life," says that she gets this question all the time.
"Iceberg lettuce is filled with water volume, so that helps fill you up," Keri says. "It has vitamins A and C, so it is giving you a little bit of nutrients."
Of course, Keri would recommend choosing darker green leafy vegetables, like kale, over iceberg lettuce in terms of nutritional value — but having some iceberg on a burger or in tacos can't hurt!
"If you don't like dark greens, it's a good vehicle for other vegetables such as carrots, onions, tomatoes and peppers," the nutritionist continues. "Just don't load up that iceberg lettuce with the ranch dressing and the bacon. Use it to get in some other nutrients!"
