"I'm a huge believer that creativity and not budget is what dictates true style," says Megan Pflug, a Brooklyn-based interior designer and blogger.

Megan recently gave her hotel — The Woodhouse Lodge, in Greenville, New York — a chic, yet affordable, makeover that is nothing short of a DIY success story.

"We were able to do a lot of the work ourselves," Megan says of the lodge she bought, "so that saved a lot of money and a lot of time."

And she has some fabulous inspo for your home, too.

"After our renovations were complete, we were left with a bunch of drywall," Megan says. So she added texture to her rooms by creating a faux panel effect. The whole project took her less than an afternoon and cost her around $50.

For the hotel's outside area, she created raised plant beds to define the space, then topped it off by hanging some strand lights. Looks perfect for a summer night!

To add additional, yet fashionable, storage, Megan DIY-ed built-in seating on either side of the fireplace and left space underneath that can double as wood storage.

One of Megan's favorite touches is a planter that features six different types of ferns, a few sticks and moss.

"It gives that fresh pop of green you really crave in the long winter months," Megan says.

Another way Megan saved money was by using plywood for her beautiful flooring. She did this by ripping the plywood into planks and then installing them like regular wood flooring by nailing them to the subfloor.
