Abby Kulp, a DIY pro, who has gained over a million followers on Instagram and TikTok for her creative, money-saving project ideas—like this expensive-looking dresser, box molding in the halls and even making her own cement floor tiles when she renovated her bathroom. Here, she shows you how to create a kids rock climbing wall like the one she made for her boys' bedroom—for a fraction of the price that it would cost you to buy one.

"A couple of years ago my husband and I bought this fixer upper for our big family. We have five kids, so I'm all about stretching that DIY budget as far as I can possibly take it, which usually means learning how to do the projects on my own through lots of trial and error and tons of YouTube tutorials," Abby explains.

"For my boys' bedroom I knew that I really wanted to build them a climbing wall. They have so much energy and, it's super affordable coming in at under $150 dollars," she says.

"What you'll need for this project are 2x4s to build your frame. It will attach to the studs that are behind the drywall itself. For the surface of the climbing wall, I used a 4x8 sheet of birch plywood. Then I ordered a rock-climbing kit online, preferably one with a rope. I painted the rock-wall kit gray," Abby explains.

"It's much more fun to hang on to the rope and climb up the wall and also be able to swing down off of it. That's also very very fun," she says.
