If you love tuning into our show, then you're probably well aware of one of Rachael's number-one tips about food storage: Store food laying down. (It'll give you more room!)
But your average reusable, resealable bag isn't necessarily designed to help you do that — especially with liquids.
That's why we asked our culinary team to test out Stasher bags.
THE CLAIM: "Stasher's 100% pure platinum food grade silicone bags are the healthy alternative to plastic. Easy to use, easy to clean, reusable and non-toxic, and it's helping the world give up its plastic bag habit. Stasher can take the heat, the cold, and anything else your kitchen dishes out. Thanks to the patented airtight seal, all of your food's nutrients, flavors and juices stay locked in."
To our senior culinary producer Jeanette Donnarumma's eye, the leak-proof promise could also make them an ideal choice for horizontal food storage!
But did they stack up to their promises and our expectations? Jeanette put a roasted vegetable soup in a Stasher bag and then into the freezer, and here's what she thought:
"It stored it really nicely. The seal on the Stasher bag stayed really, really nicely," she says. "There is no plastic in it, it's made of silicone. I feel really comfortable throwing it in the microwave and then cooking it right in the pot. These would for sure cut down on waste."
Another bonus with these storage bags, pointed out by our Managing Editor, Nicole Cherie Jones? No lids to try and keep track of. We know we're not the only ones who hate missing and mismatched food container lids.
Watch the video above to hear the rest of Jeanette's—and Rachael's—thoughts.
Want to try Stasher bags for yourself? We know they're a little pricier than your average food storage container, but it kind of evens out when you consider how much less plastic you're wasting. Check out just a few of the many size, shape and color options Stasher offers below:
