Khali Sweeney had his own rough start in life, but that hasn’t stopped him from overcoming his challenges and making it his life’s mission to set kids on the right track.

The Detroit native and father of two was shot in an altercation as a young man, and realized that everyone he know was either dead or in jail, so he needed to change his life. He founded Detroit’s Downtown Boxing Gym youth program in 2007, which aids youngsters with everything from boxing lessons to piano lessons to tutoring. The gym’s motto is “Books Before Boxing,” and it has helped its students stay on the right path through boxing and academics. Watch the video below to see Rachael visit the very special center.
