Viewer Amanda Mushro is from Maryland and shared her secret with us last year to prevent pumpkins from rotting. Just soak them in a bleach and water solution! This time around, she has even more pumpkin hacks to share.
Supplies: Pumpkin, mason jar, string of lights
Method: Carve the pumpkin any way you’d like, but on the back of it, make a small hole. Pull the string of lights through the hole, and on the inside, wrap the lights around the outside of a mason jar. Put the mason jar in the middle of the pumpkin and put the top back on. Spooky!
How to Create a Pumpkin Topiary for the Front of Your Home
Supplies: 3 pumpkins that can be stacked on top of each other, hot glue gun with glue, painter’s tape, stencils, craft paint in desired colors, sponge brush
Method: Pipe the hot glue between each pumpkin to make sure they’re secure. Use the painter's tape to attach stencils to the pumpkin, and carefully paint over the stencils using desired paint colors and the sponge brush. Check out the video above to see how Mushro made hers!
How to Make Pumpkin Candles
Supplies: sugar (or baby) pumpkins, melon baller, wax flakes, candle wicks, scissors
Method: Scoop the insides out of the pumpkins. Melt wax flakes in a microwave-safe bowl. Place a small glass plate inside the pumpkin. Press the bottom of the candle wick down onto the plate. Pour the hot wax into the pumpkin while holding the wick upright. Keep the wick in place by wrapping the top excess around a popsicle stick and placing the popsicle stick on top of the pumpkin. Once dry, trim the wick so it isn’t too long and you’ve got a pretty pumpkin candle! Check them out in the video above!
*Caution: When the candle is lit, be sure to watch carefully to ensure it doesn’t burn all the way down to the pumpkin. An alternative is to place a tealight candle inside.
