Throw a few ingredients in the slow cooker for a delicious mulled wine from culinary staffer Jeanette that's easy to make for a crowd (this recipe was originally made on Facebook Live).

Ingredients

  • 1 750-ml bottle red wine (anything dry and not sweet will do)
  • 2 medium-size oranges, divided
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 cups apple cider
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup

Yield

Serves: 6-8

Preparation

Using a vegetable peeler, peel the skin off one orange, being careful not to take too much of the white pith with the skin; slice orange in half to juice.

If making in slow cooker:

Add all ingredients to the slow cooker and set it on high for 2 hours. If hosting a holiday party, make a double or triple batch in your slow cooker and keep it warm on the warming setting all night!

If making on stovetop:

Pour wine into a medium pot over medium heat. Add the orange peel to the wine, squeeze in the juice, then add the squeezed orange to the pot along with the cinnamon stick, apple cider, and honey. Stir to combine and heat for 45-60 minutes until the flavors combine, making sure it never comes to a boil.

To serve, carefully strain out the orange peel, orange, and cinnamon stick. Slice the remaining orange into thin slices and pour wine into mugs, garnished with an orange slice.
