Ingredients

For the Grapefruit Simple Syrup:
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 2-inch pieces grapefruit rind
  • 1 jalapeño, sliced in half
For Margaritas:
  • 1 1/2 ounces Mezcal
  • 1 ounce grapefruit juice
  • 1 ounce grapefruit simple syrup
  • 1/2 ounce orange liqueur
  • Salt, for the rim (optional)
  • Lime slices, for garnish

Yield

Serves: 1 cocktail

Preparation

To make the simple syrup, place ingredients into a saucepot and bring to a boil. Once at a boil, turn off the heat, remove the grapefruit rinds and jalapeño and let cool.

Run a lime wedge around the edge of a glass then dip it in salt to salt the rim. Fill the glass with ice and set aside.


Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the mezcal, grapefruit juice, grapefruit simple syrup and orange liqueur. Shake for 30 seconds then pour over ice and garnish with a lime wedge.
