Frozen lemonade is the world's easiest summer crowd pleaser.

This simple recipe comes from one of the show's food stylists Kate Bennert. Sweetened lemon juice concentrate is frozen in ice cube trays then blended. This way, you can make as much (or as little) frozen lemonade as you want when friends stop by.

The best part about this recipe is that you can change it however you like to make fun flavors. Here are a few of Kate's favorite riffs:

  • Sparkling, Boozy Frozen Lemonade: Sub in ½ cup vodka and 1 cup of soda water for the water in final blender step
  • Cherry Frozen Lemonade: Add ½ cup frozen cherries to blender along with lemon concentrate cubes
  • Basil Frozen Lemonade: Add 6 leaves of fresh basil to blender along with lemon concentrate cubes

Ingredients

  • 2 cups water, divided
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 10 lemons

Yield

Serves: 4

Preparation

In a small saucepan, over high heat, add the water and sugar. Continue stirring over high heat until the sugar is dissolved and mixture just comes to a boil; remove from heat and let cool.

Meanwhile, juice the lemons and pass through a fine mesh sieve into a large measuring cup; discard pulp. Stir the cooled sugar liquid (aka simple syrup) into the lemon juice, then divide among two ice cube trays and freeze.

When the sweetened lemon juice concentrate has frozen solid (at least 8 hours), add the cubes to a blender with about 1 cup of water and blend until smooth. Add more water for a slushier texture.
