Ingredients
- Bacon slices (regular or turkey)
- Toothpicks
- Skewers
- Spinach leaves
- Uncooked rice (optional)
Preparation
Preheat oven to 400˚F.
Working with 1 slice of bacon at a time, begin rolling up the bacon, but make every layer a little lower than the previous layer, so that the center of the "rose" is a little higher. At the end of the bacon strip, flip the end over to mimic a rose petal, then thread the bacon rose with a toothpick to keep its shape. Stand the skewered bacon rose in a muffin tin, and repeat with remaining bacon and toothpicks.
Bake the bacon until crisp, 10 to 20 minutes, depending on desired level of crispness.
Remove the toothpicks. Cross 2 spinach leaves and thread onto a skewer to make "rose leaves", then thread through the bottom of a bacon rose. Repeat with the remaining spinach leaves, bacon roses and skewers.
If desired, stand and arrange the bacon roses in a jar filled with rice.
