Cookbook author and cookie decorator extraordinaire Emily Hutchinson shows how to make a marbled honey glaze that will spruce up any cookie for the holidays.
Ingredients
- ½ tablespoon honey
- 2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons milk
- 1 teaspoon clear vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon lemon juice
- 2 ¼ cups confectioners' sugar
- Red food coloring
- Cookies, for decorating
Preparation
Stir together honey, milk, clear vanilla extract, lemon juice, and confectioners' sugar. Cover with plastic wrap and allow to set for about 10 minutes. Unwrap, run a spatula over the top to pop any bubbles, and add a few drops food coloring in different spots around the bowl. Swirl the food coloring into the glaze to create a marbled pattern, then dip your cookie straight down in the glaze until the glaze comes up around the sides of the cookie. Lift straight up and turn quickly right side up, then set on a work surface. Repeat with cookies, as desired. Allow the glaze to set until hardened.
