Chef Curtis Stone's Favorite Restaurant is a Los Angeles Institution—Steps From The Ocean

We're continuing our series celebrating the best local restaurants—AKA "bestaurants"—across the country. And this time, Chef Curtis Stone is taking us to his favorite spot, Back on the Beach Cafe in Los Angeles. Talk about an iconic spot! This institution has been serving up seasonal Californian cuisine for over 40 years—everything from fish tacos to banana Nutella French toast. We're definitely drooling over these dishes.

The owner, Fred, shares the story of how the restaurant came to be. "I went to a cocktail party one night and was offered a job as a food and beverage director at a private club. They happened to own this building. They wouldn't pay me enough, so they gave me the building to do something that earned some more money. Well, that was 1979, and here we are 43 years later," says Fred.
