Kelsey Nixon’s Tips for Unpacking + Organizing Your Kitchen After a Move

Kelsey Nixon knows a thing or two about packing and unpacking—she’s moved 8 times in the past 14 years. Whether you’re moving into a new home or in the midst of spring cleaning, the cook and TV personality’s tips for unpacking and organizing your kitchen will come in handy. 1. Clean Everything

Kelsey uses an all-purpose cleaner to wipe down her countertops, cabinets, and kitchen floor.

2. Think About Where Everything Will Go

Kelsey uses sticky notes to map out where all of her kitchen supplies will go. This way, you won’t have to organize twice.

3. Adjust Shelves

This is important for tall vases and cooking oils.

4. Line Shelves & Drawers

This is to protect your cabinets, keep them clean, and prevent things from moving around. Kelsey also has a genius hack to keep the top of your cabinets clean: place sheets of wax paper on top to attract dust and grime.

5. Have A “Maybe Box”

To declutter your kitchen, place items that don’t have a permanent home into a “maybe box.” After a couple of months, see if you use the items, and if not, donate them to your local nonprofit or thrift store.

6. Use Bins to Separate Foods in Freezer

In Kelsey’s new home, she has space for an extra freezer in her garage. To keep her frozen foods organized, she uses bins to separate “treats” from “quick dinners.”

Now that Kelsey’s moved in, she shows Rach how to do 1 meal prep to make 3 chicken + veggie freezer meals
