Man Who Was Shot Saving Stranger's Life Starts Organization Devoted To Helping End Cycle of Violence

Peter Gold is the co-founder of Strong City, a 501(c)(3) focused on empowering "underserved youth by partnering with community organizations on the ground and helping them do what they do best." Six years ago, Peter was driving in New Orleans when he witnessed a man holding a woman in a chokehold. "The next thing I knew, I was out of my car, running over, doing everything I can to get this man off this woman," he recalls. "In doing so, he ended up robbing me and then pulling his gun out and shooting me in the abdomen."

"Together in the ICU [with my family and friends]...I realized that there were two stories here—not just mine, but the story of the attacker. We wanted to come together to look at the root of some of our city's biggest problems and figure out how we could make positive change out of a negative story," Peter says.

Our friends at invisaWear are also trying to end the cycle of violence—they make safety devices disguised as jewelry—and they're donating $5,000 to Strong City. 🧡
