Genevieve Gorder Shares Easy, Chic and Affordable Decorating Hacks

Life - By on

Genevieve Gorder is showing off her remodeled New York apartment on Wednesday’s episode, and we’re bringing you her transformative and affordable tips to get her style in your own home!

Treat Brass Hardware with Saltwater and Sandpaper for a Vintage Look

With this brilliant hack, Genevieve shows you how to get the look of a $200 distressed brass faucet for a fraction of that cost! She simply uses sandpaper to distress a $25 brass bathroom faucet, then rubs a saltwater paste all over it before setting it aside. After a couple weeks or months of the salt paste working on the brass, you end up with a beautiful distressed look!

Tip: This technique can be used on any brass item – even a chandelier!

How to Decorate Around Your TV

No one wants to look at a TV that’s not on. So how do you create visual interest in the space around it so that it blends seamlessly into the room when not in use? Genevieve suggests to group decorative items like driftwood as well as picture frames on the wall behind the TV.

Tip: Group picture frames in twos and threes so as not to create an overwhelming display.

Paint Your Bookcase Backing for Contrast

Genevieve shows Rach how to paint the backing of bookshelves to create a deeper and richer visual presentation.

Tip: Create color-coded book sculptures for a vibrant way to show off your library.
