Does This Plant Have More Protein Than Steak?!

Life - By on

Ushering in the new year in style, Dr. Ian stopped by to test out five of the latest beauty and health trends — including cryotherapy, collagen and apple cider vinegar.

And while he was on the fence about some, he was 100 percent behind this one:

Blue-green algae.

Not only does he say that the plant has more protein in it than steak (say wha?!), but it also boasts a healthy dose of antioxidants (which can help neutralize the free radicals that cause disease in your body).

Amazing!

And yet, even with all that goodness in mind, Dr. Ian realizes that "algae" as a concept doesn't necessarily sound like the most appealing thing in the world. Which is why he shared a salsa recipe from his latest book, Blast the Sugar Out!, designed just for the addition of algae. The salsa will mask the taste of algae — plus, it will still be salsa, which is pretty irresistible to just about all of us, no?

Even Rach — who, OF COURSE, was a little squeamish hearing about algae — was into it!

Dr. Ian's salsa calls for tomatoes, zucchini, peppers, parsley, basil, capers, onions, garlic and pepper, plus the algae and a squeeze of lemon juice. But if you want the exact recipe, you can pick up a copy of the book here!
