There's never a bad time to invest in a new home gadget to make your life a bit (er, way) easier. These hot 2022 products that lifestyle and tech expert Chi-Lan Lieu is introducing you to will save you lots of extra work, whether you're tired of handwashing dishes, weeding your garden or locking yourself out of your house. (Oh, and she brought a super fun gadget, too—a build-your-own SLR camera!)
Bob The Dishwasher
"This was one of the hottest things to come out of the Consumer Electronics Show of this year, and the reason why is because Bob allows any of us to have a dishwasher in our house, whether or not we have a dedicated inlet," says Chi-Lan.
This gadget allows you to simply pour water into your dishwasher on your countertop—you don't have to have a dedicated waterline. And then just open him up, load him in, and he will wash. Simple as that—and in about 20 minutes, it's able to wash the number of dishes for two people.
And as if saving you tons of time with the regular dishwashing features weren't enough, it also features a UVC cycle, which is a waterless cycle. "It actually kills about 99% of germs and viruses. "Great for cleaning remote controls, plastic toys," explains Chi-Lan. How amazing!
Schlage Encode Plus Deadbolt
Next, if you're looking for a smart alternative to your typical deadbolt, this Schlage Encode Plus Deadbolt is for you. "This is the first deadbolt in America to feature Apple Home Keys, where you can walk up with your iPhone and you can just tap the screen, and using NFC technology already built into the deadbolt as well as your phone, it just unlocks," says Chi-Lan. How cool is that?
You can also use your Apple Watch to unlock it. And you're able to both lock and unlock it from the app, so you don't need to worry about losing your keys ever again!
Lomography Konstruktor Kit
Most of us have been using digital cameras for years, but for photography buffs, film is king. "This is the world’s first fully functional 35mm Do It Yourself SLR camera, and you can easily build it at home. You literally build the camera yourself and then it also has a PC socket so you can use flash accessories," Chi-Lan says.
It usually takes about one to two hours from start to finish to build your camera and then you have a fully functional SLR camera. The Konstruktor comes with modes for regular and long exposures, a tripod thread for keeping those exposures steady and an uncoupled shutter release and advance, so you can take multiple exposure photos.
Tertill Weeding Robot
Are you ready for the cutest little addition to your garden that will make the back-breaking weeding work much easier? "This Tertill Weeding Robot is literally just plug and play. You take him out of the box, put him in your garden, press a button and then he starts doing the weeding for you. And because he's weatherproof and he has a solar panel on top, you literally just leave him out there, and he runs about one to two times a day for two to four minutes," explains Chi-Lan.
"He has these all-terrain wheels, which will actually help kill the weeds that haven't grown yet, and then there's a weedwhacker to take care of the other weeds that have sprouted," she says. We're ready to put this little guy to work, so we can look at a weed-free garden this spring.
