Are your bra straps digging into your shoulders? You're definitely not alone—and it turns out, according to bra fitting expert Kimmay Caldwell, there's one reason why it's happening. We also asked Kimmay some more of her commonly asked questions like what color bra to wear under a white shirt and how to hide your bra straps. Here, she explains why your bra straps could be digging in and her easy fix.
FAQ: Why are my bra straps always digging in?
"Your bra straps are too thin! Thin straps tend to dig in while a wider strap can lay nice and flat and distribute the weight," says Kimmay.
"Think of your body like a marshmallow, and if you have a really thin piece of floss and you put it on the marshmallow, it's just going to dig in. But if you have a nice, wide, soft, stretchy something, it will just hug the marshmallow and evenly distribute all of that weight without digging in," she explains.
"Don't be afraid to try shoulder strap cushions, which also do the same thing by widening out the strap," Kimmay adds.
And, don't forget to check your straps and your band.
"A stretchy strap should only be able to go one inch off our shoulder with some resistance. You don't want them too tight or too loose. The band is actually responsible for 90% of the bra's support. If it's too loose, which is super common, it will ride up, you lose that support, and the weight of your breast will rest on your shoulders," she says.
