Happy National Bratwurst Day! It’s the perfect time of year to celebrate this spiced sausage, so check out three of our favorite recipes that you can throw on the grill this weekend!

No. 1: Wayne Sargent's 'The Ultimate Bratwurst'

Rachael Ray Show

Green Bay Packers uber-fan Wayne Sargent reveals how to make the classic Wisconsin brat. He simmers his brats in a pot of water, beer, onion, Worcestershire sauce and red wine vinegar, then grills them. Serve in a bun with your favorite condiments and toppings. Delish!

No. 2: Bratwurst Reubens with Sweet 'n Sour Red Cabbage

Next, Rachael came up with this delish recipe for deli-style sandwiches that feature bratwurst instead of pastrami. She makes a homemade apple red cabbage to layer on the sandwich instead of the traditional sauerkraut. Yum!

Tip: Simmer your brats in water to fully cook them, before slicing them in half and cooking face down on your griddle.

No. 3: Bratburgers with Onions

And finally, if you want the peppery flavor of Bratwurst without having to take the time to stuff the meat into sausage casings, you can make Rachael’s Bratburgers in half the time! Rach serves with a homemade red cabbage for authentic German flavor.
