John prefers to use Luxardo maraschino cherries and liqueur when making this cocktail.
Ingredients
5 tablespoons rye whiskey
1 1/2 tablespoons sweet vermouth
1/2 tablespoon maraschino liqueur
2 dashes chocolate bitters
Good-quality maraschino cherry, for garnish

Preparation
Stir whisky, vermouth, maraschino liqueur, and chocolate bitters with ice, then strain into a chilled cocktail coupe. Garnish with the cherry on a serving pick.
