John describes his latest cocktail as "sorta like a whiskey sour with a little spiciness in it and topped off with club soda to kinda counterbalance that spiciness." It sounds as good as the name: hot rock whiskey fizz! He created the drink to go with Rach's Beer Batter Fish Sticks with Tangy Tartar Sauce and Oil & Vinegar Slaw.

Ingredients

For the Simple Syrup:
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup water
For the Cocktail:
  • 1 ½ ounces bourbon
  • ¾ ounce Simple Syrup (above)
  • ½ ounce lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce, or more to taste
  • Club soda, to top
  • 1 maraschino cherry, for garnish

Yield

Serves: Makes 1 cocktail, plus simple syrup for more

Preparation

For the simple syrup, combine the sugar and water in a small saucepan. Heat and stir over low heat until the sugar is dissolved. Refrigerate in an airtight container until ready to use.

For the cocktail, combine the bourbon, simple syrup and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker. Add ice, shake and strain into an ice-filled Collins glass. Top with club soda and garnish with the cherry.

Always drink responsibly.
