If you’ve reached the point in your life where you’re sick of coloring your hair and you want to rock the gray (hey, even young starlets are doing it), you’ve probably wondered, “Will my hair look terrible as the color grows out?” The truth is, it very well might if you don’t do it the right way. Luckily, our beauty and style expert Gretta Monahan has the solution.
Traditionally, women who want to grow their color out have two options – cut all the color out (leaving you with very little hair), or simply let the color grow out, leaving you with an unsightly line between the gray and color.
But Gretta reveals that your stylist can add some highlights into your roots so that you don’t have a stark line where the two colors of your hair (gray and the colored portion) meet. And, she says that it might be possible to only update the highlights once, maybe twice over the course of the year it takes to grow your color out.
Note – Gretta shares that you should not do this yourself at home! It is pretty complicated but the good news is, you shouldn’t have to go to the salon too many times!
